Rich Nelson

Rich is a technical mastermind! He coaches ARS and at our track days he can be found in either Track School II or the School of ROCC.  His extensive riding and racing career has made him a huge asset to ZARS.

Denyse Brooks

Motorcycling started for me riding in my teens (dirtbikes, 3 wheeler), but it wasn’t until I had ridden 2 up with a male friend in my early 20’s that I decided that I needed to have one of my own… so, after a short search, I purchased a used Ninja 250 and the rest as they say, is history!

I rode that bike for about a year and half, before I decided that I wanted something a bit bigger, faster and more powerful. (yes, I was the typical squid at this time!)  I came across a used Honda VFR 700F in pearl white that I fell in love with.  I rode that for several years, even meeting my now ex-husband on it.  At the time, we both had Honda VFRs and rode together quite a bit before he started racing MotoX and I started showing horses again competitively on a national level.  The bike took a back seat during the next 10 years or so, (built a house, got married, showed horses, etc), until our divorce.  As part of the settlement, I traded him the bike for a horse, so I was bike-less for the first time in a long time.

Soon thereafter however, a co-worker was looking to sell his Honda F4i and it was a good deal, so I snapped it up and resumed where I had left off years prior.  Street rides became the norm and I met up with a group of experienced riders in my area.  I have to give credit to them for really helping mold my riding into what it is today.  Confident, cautious, predictable and maybe a bit on the daring side…  ;)

It was about then that I was introduced to a riding school (ridingcourse.com) in the area that offered a curriculum and riding courses at DCTC.  I took my first school and continued coming back for more over time.  I also continued to street ride and enjoyed the group ride aspect meeting many like minded riders with varying skills.  I attended my first ARS with ZARS in 2006 and it was during this time that I met and started gaining many friendships within the sportbike community.

Becoming a coach with ZARS has been has helped me find my calling I think… I truly enjoy helping others gain confidence and knowledge riding a motorcycle.  The “lightbulb” moments are my favorite and I swear I can see it literally go off when a student has an "aha" moment.  It's worthwhile when I see the excitement and confidence these riders gain after taking an ARS school or attending a trackday.

I became a licensed racer in the summer of 2018 with the Central Roadracing Association…  I had a fun season and even podiumed a few times, all the while dropping my lap times consistently.  It’s a fun sport, albeit expensive!

I am currently riding a 2013 GSX-R750.  I plan on going to a couple of rounds when I can this season with the Central Roadracing Association and I'll continue to coach with ZARS at both our Advanced Riding Schools at DCTC and trackdays at BIR, Road America, High Plains Raceway and BlackHawk Farms, along with a bit of street riding when time permits.

A few of my favorites trips would be; training with Rickdiculous Racing and Ken Hill in 2015 at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in SoCal, attending Femmewalla and SoCal Trackdays in December of 2016, along with several trips to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL with several of my fellow ZARS coaches and students.  (BARBER!!)

I am planning on attending the Womens' Sportbike Rally in Deals Gap, NC in September!  Excited to ride the great Smoky Mountains!

Troy Pierson

I have been an avid motorcyclist for more than 40 years.  I have logged more than 200,000 miles of seat time, spanning off-road, street, and closed course surfaces on two continents.  My competitive experience covers a variety of disciplines ranging from off-road Enduros and Hare Scrambles to Timed Road Runs to Roadracing.

In addition to competing, I have been a highly respected and experienced rider coach and instructor.  Building upon my engineering background and 20+ years as a Nationally Certified MSF Instructor, I specialize in developing and delivering advanced rider skills training.  In my spare time, I operate DirtBike Tech (an off-road riding school) and serve as a Lead Instructor for Zalusky Advanced Riding Schools.  I have personally coached over 4,000 students in the ways of riding a motorcycle proficiently.  My top priority is to help riders increase their comfort and confidence on the bike to improve their overall control of the motorcycle at all times.

Randy Mattran

Randy #62 has been a ZARS rider since day one, and is probably one of the most experienced riders on the team. Primarily into touring and ADV riding, Randy has always viewed ARS and Track Days as a way to build and maintain skills for better confidence and safety on the road.  As a ZARS Coach,  Randy enjoys adapting his thoughtful, methodical approach to the needs and interests of each student rider he gets to work with.

Jake Schmotter

#36 I’ve always been involved with two wheel motorsports and roadracing was always a goal. My most memorable race was my first expert win: it was downpouring rain and my first time on rain tires. I started in last then worked my way through once I figured out the traction situation. 2017 was dedicated to sorting out the R1 while still being competitive. I finished in the top 7 every race and finished the race season with a team victory during the 5 Hour EnduranceRace at Brainerd in September.

2018 SEASON GOALS: My biggest goal for this year is to place in the top three overall in Unlimited Expert with the Central Roadracing Association. I also want to compete with other racing organizations and place in the Top 5 during those race weekends. Off track I aim to maintain a positive outgoing attitude that supports good brand image on and off the track.
I hope to gain exposure for road racing and the CRA specifically in hopes to increase club size.

Corey Bateman

I started riding with ZARS in 2010 after a 20 year hiatus from motorcycles and the classes were a perfect way to to get reaquainted with riding. After two classes, I was hooked and signed up for every class offered. It would have been amazing to have this when I first started riding! Istarted coaching in 2013 and enjoy meeting the new riders, passing on the information that I have learned and watching others improve their riding.
