Track Rules & Procedures

Announcements:

Announcements are made on the PA/radio station to inform you of who’s on track, warnings of when you will be on track and other important announcements. Generally, you’ll hear a 5-minute and 2-minute call for the start of your group as well as a final call.

Riders may only enter the track under the approval of the gate staff.  When entering the track be prepared to show your wrist band to the gate staff.

Sessions will end when a checkered flag is displayed and all riders will need to exit immediately per the exiting protocol.

Track Entry/Exit:

It is critical that everyone understands and follows the protocol for entering and exiting the track.  Protocols and procedures vary by the track. Violation of this could jeopardize your safety and that of others along with your ability to ride.  Please review carefully and if you have questions, ask!

Entry and exit procedures and protocols will be explained and communicated thoroughly at the morning’s Rider Meeting.

Track Rules/Procedures- Let’s minimize all risk!

1) 12-feet Riding Rule!  Riders must remain 12 feet (approximately 2 bike lengths) away from fellow riders on track, except when passing; see passing rules.

Riders who ride off the track may only re-enter the track with the approval of a safety worker.  Look to a corner for a hand signal or wait for personnel to attend to you.

2) Any rider who crashes may not directly re-enter the track. That rider must wait until a scheduled break to bring the bike back to the pit area.  If bike is “ride-able,” rider must wait for a corner worker and medical approval to bring bike back into the paddock area.

3) No rider may, at any time, ride in such a manner as to endanger life or limb of other riders, guest, staff, and coaches or control riders. Such riding includes blatant violation of flag conditions as displayed by corner workers. Riders who act in such manner and are reported to track staff will be ejected from the course, without exception or appeal.

4) Only the registered rider may ride on the track during their designated sessions.

5) Any rider observed riding recklessly in the parking area may be ejected from the event.

6) If you are on the track on a liter bike or of similar size and have bikes piling up behind you, we ask that you allow the riders to pass in the passing areas as a courtesy.

7) Passing rules:

It is the responsibility of the overtaking rider to make a clean, safe pass.  The cardinal rules of passing for all groups include:

·      It is the responsibility of the overtaking rider to make a clean, safe pass.

·      Do not take another rider’s line.

·      There must be at least 6 feet between you and the rider you are passing.

Please error on the side of safety if you are unsure. Wait for another opportunity to pass, there is plenty of time and track to do so in a safe manner.

The rider being passed has the right of way and should not react any differently while being passed.  Any aggressive riding will not be tolerated and a rider may forfeit Track Day for such violation.

8) Passing Rules for specific groups:

Novice- No passing in any corners from corner entry to corner exit; passing is only allowed on the straight-a-ways.

Intermediate 1/2- Passing is allowed throughout the track, except NO passing on the inside of a fellow rider in the corner (outside corner passing only).

Advanced- Passing is allowed throughout the track.

9) Control Riders:

We have dedicated control riders who have a tremendous amount of experience and are highly qualified.  Control Riders assist riders on the track and monitor the track riding to ensure that all riders are riding within their own limits and following the rules.  CR’s can be identified with a bright yellow vest.

10) Here are hand signals you may see from a control rider:

Tap on tail: “Follow me”

Arm waving past: “OK to pass”

Arm moving up and down: “Slow down”

Point to the line on the track: “Follow this line”

11) No wheelies or stunts at anytime.

12) No stopping on the track at anytime.  If you are coming up on an incident, do not stop and help.  If there is a red flag, reduce your speed and exit the track at the exit only.

13) No listening to headphones or audio devices while on the track.

Crash Policy

The bottom line...ride within your limits. If you don't know your limits, slow down.  If you crash excessively and you are deemed dangerous, you are likely done for the day or indefinitely, no refunds.

If you crash, the safety of you and the other riders in the immediate area are of our utmost importance. Every situation will vary.   Do not attempt to pick up or recover your bike, as you could become a target that another rider will fixate on.  Our safety personnel will do their best to direct you, but you will need to assess the situation and use your best judgment. If you are in an impact area and are able to safely move away, do so.  Our safety personnel will attend to you.

If you crash, you will not be allowed to ride the bike back on the hot track, unless approved by “Safety Personnel.” Second, you will need to be checked out by our paramedics or medical team before riding again as well as your bike needs to be re-teched.

If you crash or have a mechanical problem during the day and the safety staff determines that it is unsafe to retrieve it while bikes are on the track, you will need to wait until the lunch break or the end of the day, unless time permits during the schedule. Please speak with the gate staff to determine this before attempting retrieval.
